E.V.A. (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) is a synthetic compound used for outsoles. E.V.A. provides cushioning to the foot and is easily shaped by heat and pressure. EVA is the darling of running shoes. – It’s light, it’s flexible – and it has a great disposition as a cushioning material. But like any good thing, it won’t last forever. Over time and repeated impacts, E.V.A. tends to compress and lose some of its ability to rebound. Runners notice this and say their shoes feel “flat”. The technical term would be the foam has taken a “compression set”.
