Hello world!
July 6th, 2009Betsey Johnson Leopard Platforms
April 14th, 2008These shoes caught my eye as I was flipping through Victoria’s Secret Shoes & Accessories Summer catalog. Then I had to go onto Betsey Johnson ’s website to check out her other shoes and see if they’re just as cute…and although there aren’t many to choose from, each one is simply adorable. But my favorite is this leopard platform, because it’s part wild, part cute. I would wear these this summer with a high-waisted pencil skirt and cute top.
FitFlop Fitness Shoes
April 14th, 2008
I’m not sure whether I believe the claims of this flipflop brand, touting that your legs will get a workout when you walk in them.
The supposed benefits include less joint impact, muscle engagement. increased calorie-burning and leg toning. They come in silver, black and red. Would this be a wise $49 investment or would it be a total flop?
Check out what others have said about the FitFlop at Stylelist.
China fears Western brands and marketing
April 14th, 2008Joe Nocera of the New York Times met with Li-Ning chief operating officer to discuss the importance of brands in China. Li-Ning is a Chinese sneaker and athletic wear company named after its founder, a three-time gold medalist in gymnastics at the 1984 Olympics. Six years later, he realized that China lacked a high-quality sneaker, and he started his own company.

Li-Ning sneakers look strikingly similar to Nike and Adidas sneakers. The brand is currently serving domestic markets only, but Guo wants to export to Europe and the United States. But to do this, the company needs to become a brand like Nike or Adidas. Li-Ning shoes are priced 20 percent below their Nike and Adidas equivalent, which indicates that the company is not confident that it can compete with these Western competitors.
China has been experimenting in capitalism is less than three decades old, and much of it is low-cost manufacturing. It was a country used to scarcity, and some areas still are, so branding doesn’t get as much attention as it does in the west.

Speakeasy Wedge by Naturalizer
April 14th, 2008I just bought a pair of these wedges, and I absolutely love them! They are funky in all the right ways without being gaudy. And *gasp* they are comfortable! I wore them to school, where I had to walk around all day…and no blisters or soreness! I wear them with a bright fuscia top and black pants. I bet they would look stunning paired with a little calf-length black dress.

Emilio Pucci multi-colored peep toe
April 14th, 2008This peep-toe is a must-have for this spring and summer, glowing with the brilliant pairing of pastels and bright colors. The shoe is made of smooth satin and Emilio Pucci’s signature 60’s style geometric print. The heel is contrast faceted and is 4 1/2 inches tall.
I would wear these with a bright-colored dress such as this Nine West Stretch Satin Dress. With the playful colors in this shoe, you can wear them with virtually anything!
Emilio Pucci
Emilio Pucci entered the fashion scene in the 1950’s after creating a streamlined ski outfit, photographed for Harper’s Bazaar. Emilio Pucci, in 1967, naturally embodied the post war glamour which attracted a new group of modern, active women.
Pucci desired to help in the women’s liberation movement. Inspired by the natural landscapes of the Mediterranean and exotic cultures, Pucci included rich, bright color to his design. The effect was playful, joyous, and it was in step with the styles of the time.
In the 1950’s Pucci came up with his signature prints – graphic, abstract designs, swirling in a kaleidoscope pattern and exploding with color. The international press referred to him as “the prince of prints”, who were smitten by his bold, new design and radical approach to fashion at the time.
In the 1990’s Laudomia Pucci, Emilio’s daughter, started making the business her own. 2007 was a landmark year for Emilio Pucci as the Florentine fashion brand celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Spring 2008 Trend: Avant-Garde
April 11th, 2008Lucky Magazine’s Allyson Waterman gave advice on CBS last week about spring shoe trends, explaining that shoes should be the center of your wardrobe (as if they aren’t already).
She began by stating what we shouldn’t bring back from last year, including ballet flats and toned-down colors. This year, shoe style is all about bold colors and experimental styles. There are so many new trends this year, and they are all inspired by the runway. The main trends include more color, more foot coverage, and sculptural shapes.
Here are some of the trends this spring:
- Extreme Wedges
I like these Pure Chocolat wedges, they have plenty of attitude!
- Gladiator Sandals
Via Spiga’s ‘Bitten’ Gladiator Sandals would add just enough sporty appeal to tone down an otherwise over-girly outfit. They are available at Nordstrom.
- Crazy Heels - By far my favorite trend this spring!!! I am so excited to buy a pair of my own. Check out Marc Jacobs’ Inverted Heel!
Another heel-less option are these Junko Shimada dazzling high shoes.
How do you like these spring trends? If you have any more to add, please do! I am anxious to see what my fellow fashionistas like!
Pastry Mocha Icing Shell Toe
April 11th, 2008
Pastry Kicks just released their Mocha Icing Shell Toe, available only at DRJAYS for $60. I love this shoe, maybe because of the fun colors and textures, maybe because I like the stripey laces and lightning bolt on the back. I am going to get mine right now, because they are going to sell out like they did a few months ago when they were offered for special pre-order.
Pastry Kicks is a “fashion brand designed by Vanessa and Angela Simmons of MTV’s Run’s House. Pastry footwear offers colorful, fun footwear for ’stylish young ladies’ by ’stylish young ladies’.” The brand was launched in early 2007 by Angela and Vanessa, daughters of DJ Run, as a lifestyle brand, and has a playful desserts and candy theme.
Spring 2008 Trend: Jelly Shoes
April 10th, 2008
The last time I even thought about jelly shoes was when I was 5 years old, and even then they were outdated! However, jelly shoes are making a reappearance as a spring 2008 trend. If you are willing to face the sore spots and sweaty feet that come with jelly shoes, I suggest buying some comfort pads at a shoe department, and don’t expect to wear your jellies for a long walk.
Here are few (limited) times when I think jelly shoes are appropriate and might even be fun:
- Step into the office in jellies. Maybe they will awaken your inner child, and you won’t be walking much, so you’ll avoid blisters.
- Wear them to a weekend event. They are a casual type of shoe, so pair them with Bermudas and a cute top, a bright sun dress, or jeans and a graphic tee.
Have you already bought a pair of jellies this season? If so, share your pictures with me! Personally, I think I will be avoiding this particular trend.
I will leave you with a few jellies I do like. First of all, if you’re going to try jellies for the first time, don’t spend alot of money on them. Target has women’s Xhilaration Georgi Jelly Ballet Flats that are charming for only $8.99.
If you’re a veteran jelly shoe lover, try the SKECHERS Cali Surfer or the Kate Spade Maui jelly Flip Flop.
I will say that I think jelly shoes are cute on little girls, like these Belle Deluxe Jelly Shoes.
