Great Scott! ‘Back to the Future’ Self-Lacing Shoes Will Soon Be a Reality
January 16, 2015
In 1989, Back to the Future Part II offered bold predictions for technology in 2015. And while we’re still waiting on hoverboards and automated Texaco gas stations, one footwear forecast is about to come true. Nike has confirmed that it will release a new line of Nike MAGs, the self-lacing time-traveling sneakers worn by Marty McFly.
These kicks will light up and feature self-tightening technology. The shoes are still in development and there is no official release date. Nike may be struggling with the large battery required for self-lacing shoes (which poses challenges both in terms of design and cost). But Nike’s innovation chief Tinker Hatfield asserted that the shoe will hit in 2015, stressing that there are still “11 and two-thirds months left in 2015,” , according to Nice Kicks.
Will you be lining up to get your own pair of ‘Back to the Future’ self-lacing shoes?
