Word of the Week: Upper

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I apologize for not defining this on a previous Word of the Week, since I use it so much!  The upper is the upper part of a shoe, not including the sole, that is attached to the outsole.  The upper may be made from leather, fabric or synthetics.  Depending on the style of the shoe, the upper of a shoe can be cut from a single piece, or can be comprised of many pieces stitched together. Parts of a shoe’s upper can include the vamp, the back, the tongue, the quarter, and the lining.

Check out previous Words of the Week, and read the shoe glossary for more footwear lingo!
